Solidar

SOLIDAR is an independent European alliance of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved in social welfare, life-long learning, development, and humanitarian aid and who have links with the trade unions and the social democratic parties. SOLIDAR was formally set up in Germany in 1951 with the name International Workers Aid. In 1995 it was renamed SOLIDAR and moved to Brussels. SOLIDAR Member Agencies are involved in over 90 countries worldwide where they collaborate with grass root organisations and trade unions. SOLIDAR has NGO representatives from 15 countries, 11 of which are in the EU. The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) is a founding and Observer member, and SOLIDAR maintains fraternal relations with the Socialist International and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC). SOLIDAR is recognised by the European Union and the International Labour Organisation (ILO). SOLIDAR is an Observer to the Liaison Committee of Development NGO's to the EU and a member of the Platform of European Social NGO's.
